Katie Schmalzel is an Associate Attorney in Goodspeed Merrill's Employment practice group. She has expertise on counseling employers and individuals legal and compliance issues, defending employers in complaint matters, as well as advocating for individuals. Ms. Schmalzel has experience practicing before the Colorado Civil Rights Division, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Colorado District and Appellate courts. She also works closely with Goodspeed Merrill's complex commercial litigation group especially on matters concerning contractors and corporate dissolutions.
Ms. Schmalzel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Merchandising from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Arts degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University, and a law degree from University of Denver Strum College of Law. Prior to pursuing a career in law, her first career was as an administrator at various institutions of higher education, where she managed employment and student discrimination complaints.
When not practicing law, Ms. Schmalzel enjoys living her best Colorado life including hiking mountains, running trails, and meandering around farmers markets and local festivals
